This 2026 Peterbilt 579 conventional sleeper tractor is configured for general freight hauling of other commodities, with an 80" UltraLoft sleeper and a fifth wheel setup suited to pulling 53' van trailers (13.5' trailer height, 36" kingpin setting). Engine & Drivetrain
Powered by a PACCAR MX-13 rated 455 HP @1,600 RPM (governed @2,200 RPM) with 1,650 lb-ft of torque @900 RPM, 2024-emissions compliant, CARB emission compliant with CARB idling compliance. Runs on EMUX electronics architecture with an effective VSL setting of 65 MPH, typical operating speed of 65 MPH, and powertrain optimized for fuel economy (targets 90%+ time at or near cruise speed). Equipped with predictive cruise control, MX retarder state cruise control, decline driver performance assistant, and engine monitoring protection (derate). Paired with a PACCAR TX-12 automated 12-speed transmission (no cooler), column-mounted shifter on the RH side, economy shift calibration, and neutral coast mode. Driveline includes an RPL20 interaxle and RPL25 SD driveline with 1 midship bearing; rear axle ratio is 2.85. Additional engine equipment: compression brake, high-efficiency cooling system, single engine-mounted air cleaner, single RH horizontal exhaust with under-cab DPF/SCR (single module) and regeneration switch, variable-speed direct-drive fan clutch, WABCO 25.9 CFM air compressor, and a PACCAR fuel/water separator with extended service interval. Chassis & Axles
Front axle is a Meritor MFS+12E rated 12,500 lbs with a 3.5" drop, taper leaf springs, TRW THP60 power steering with a frame-mounted reservoir, Bendix ADB22X-LT front disc brakes, Tenneco steer axle shocks, and greaseable front spring pins. Rear axle is a PACCAR DX-40 rated 40,000 lbs with Bendix ADB22X-LT tandem drive disc brakes. GAWR is rated 12,000 lbs front / 20,000 lbs first intermediate / 20,000 lbs second intermediate. Frame consists of 10-5/8" steel rails (326"-384") at 5/16" thickness with aluminum frame rail crossmembers; wheelbase is 240", FAX/BOC 68.20", cab/axle 171.80", cab/EOF 227.80", with a maximum grade rating of 6%. Fifth wheel is a Jost JSK37 top plate on an inboard-mounted 18" air slide, lightweight inboard slider, 6.6"-7" fifth wheel height. Braking/safety electronics include a Bendix 6S6M ABS system, Bendix ESP electronic stability program with ATC for tractor service, Bendix collision mitigation (RH side sensor), adaptive cruise control with adjustable following distance, Bendix Fusion stop-and-auto-go, tire pressure monitoring, and synthetic axle lubricant on all axles. Fuel system includes a 135-gallon aluminum tank (RH BOC) and 110-gallon aluminum tank (LH BOC) for 245 gallons total capacity, with dual shutoff valves for dual draw/return and a center fuel fill; a 20-gallon aero DEF tank is mounted LH BOC. Exterior chassis equipment includes Polyarmor black quarter fenders, painted rear mudflap hangers, a molded 3-piece aero bumper, chassis aero fairings and quarter-fender-to-BOS side fairings, front tire closeouts, an aluminum battery box, and a non-slip aluminum cab entry step — all finished in body color.
Suspension
PB Low Air Leaf rear suspension rated 40,000 lbs with a 52" axle spread (lightweight configuration), plus a dash-mounted suspension dump switch with indicator light.
Cab & Interior

Instrumentation is a 15" digital cluster display showing engine oil temperature, air filter restriction, brake application air pressure, suspension air pressure (load), engine hourmeter, turbo boost/manifold pressure, and engine percent torque, plus two additional dash switches. Lighting includes composite fender-mounted headlights with integral DRL/park/turn/side marker, five aero LED marker lights, daytime running lights, self-canceling turn signals, LED oval stop/turn/tail/backup lighting, and two flush-mounted LED load lights. Additional equipment: air horn, removable bugscreen, electric windshield wipers with intermittent feature, auto-reset circuit protection, EPIQ aero package, aero closeouts under the cab/sleeper sides, a UL-listed fire extinguisher in the sleeper baggage compartment, and a triangle reflector kit.
