Overview
This 2027 Peterbilt Model 589 Traditional is a day cab tractor, with no sleeper, finished in Viper Red with a black frame and built on a 250" wheelbase. It's spec'd for construction dump service, on and off highway, and set up to pull a 53' semi-end dump trailer with tandem axles and a 13.5' trailer height. The unit is rated for a GCW of 110,000 lbs and a GVWR of 59,200 lbs, with a front axle load rating of 13,200 lbs and a rear axle load rating of 46,000 lbs. GAWR is rated at 13,200 lbs up front and 23,000 lbs on each of the two intermediate (drive) axle positions. Maximum grade capability is rated at 6 percent.
Engine & Drivetrain
Power comes from a Cummins X15, rated 605 hp at 1,950 rpm, governed at 2,000 rpm, with 2,050 lb-ft of torque at 1,000 rpm, built to 2024-series emissions as a model year 2026 engine. It's paired with an Eaton RTLO20918B 18-speed manual transmission featuring an oil-to-water cooler, along with a self-adjusting, pre-damped clutch and a chrome manual shifter. The driveline runs an SPL350 HD-XL shaft with one midship bearing to an SPL250 XL interaxle driveline for the tandem rear axles. A Jacobs compression brake is fitted, with engine brake controls mounted on the right-hand column. The truck also carries a predictive cruise control package, with a typical operating speed and maximum cruise control speed of 75 mph and a vehicle speed limiter setting of 65.0 mph. Electrical equipment includes a PACCAR 160-amp brushed alternator, a PACCAR premium starter, four PACCAR premium 12V dual-purpose batteries rated at 2,920 CCA, a low voltage disconnect system, and an immersion-type block heater rated 110–120V. The exhaust system is a dual setup with the DPF/SCR module mounted right-hand under the cab, finished with chrome exhaust pipes and standpipes.
Chassis & Axles
The front axle is a Dana Spicer D1321IL rated 13,200 lbs with a 3.5" drop, wide-track configuration, and air disc brakes. The rear end runs Dana Spicer D46-172 tandem axles rated 46,000 lbs with a 3.91 ratio, heavy wall construction, air disc brakes, and a differential lock with speed interlock. The truck is equipped with Bendix ESP Electronic Stability Program with ATC, an anti-lock braking system (6S6M), and a tire pressure monitoring system. Frame rails are 10-3/4" steel, 3/8" thick, with a zinc-coated anti-corrosion treatment, running to 354". The fifth wheel is a Holland FW35 top plate on a bolted mount, with inboard air slide, no-tilt convertible design on a 30" Holland air slide, left-hand release, slide controls, and set 6" behind the centerline of the bogie. A frame-mounted deck plate and access package is fitted on the left-hand side, and the rear frame structure is a tapered EOF tractor design with crossmember and kingpin cutout. A chrome steel Texas-style front bumper with two tow points is included. Air system equipment includes a Bendix AD-HF EP air dryer with heater, coalescing filter, and extended purge, along with polished aluminum air tanks. Fuel is carried in dual aluminum tanks, a 120-gallon tank on the right-hand side and a 110-gallon tank on the left-hand side behind the cab, both polished, with an additional sending unit in the secondary tank. A 24-gallon DEF tank is mounted left-hand behind the cab with a polished stainless steel cover.
Suspension
Rear suspension is a Peterbilt Air Trac unit rated 46,000 lbs with 52" axle spacing, fitted with a steel suspension insert rated up to a 77" overhang and air springs with internal bumpers. A dash-mounted dump switch with indicator light is included for the suspension, along with a cab air suspension system.
Cab & Interior
The cab is aluminum with a 131" BBC and an aluminum hood featuring a polished crown and spring tilt assist, along with a SmartSound cab insulation package, Peterbilt keyless entry, and polished stainless rocker panels. Seating consists of a Peterbilt LX premium-level driver's seat, heated, and a Peterbilt LX premium-level passenger seat, both air ride and high back with leather trim, along with driver and passenger armrests, black seat color, and red seat belts. The interior is finished in Platinum trim in Alpine Gray with rubber flooring, an adjustable tilt/telescoping steering column, and a premium leather-wrapped, multi-function steering wheel with audio and cruise controls. Glass includes a one-piece curved windshield with dark tint and power door locks and windows. Climate control is a combination fresh air heater and air conditioner. Technology includes a 7" infotainment display with Apple CarPlay, a premium six-speaker package with tweeters, a Uniden Bearcat 880 CB radio with weatherband, and global telematics hardware. Mirrors are heated, motorized, stainless steel units in a west-coast style measuring 7"x18", supplemented by two convex 8" heated mirrors and a look-down mirror over the passenger door. Exterior lighting includes LED headlight pods with integral turn signals, LED marker lights, LED oval stop/turn/tail/backup lighting, additional LED turn signals mounted on the mirrors, and two flush-mounted LED load lights, along with a pair of roof-mounted round air horns. The 15" digital cluster display carries gauges for front and rear drive axle oil temperature, engine oil temperature, transmission oil temperature, air filter restriction, tractor and trailer brake air pressure, suspension air pressure, trailer reservoir air pressure, secondary fuel level, engine and PTO hourmeters, turbo boost, and engine percent torque. Additional cab features include dual USB charging, a pull-out work tray over the glove box, a rear wall map pocket, ambient lighting, a removable bugscreen, electric intermittent wipers, and a backup alarm.
Tires & Wheels
Front tires are 11R24.5, 16-ply HSR3, mounted on Peterbilt 24.5x8.25 high-polish aluminum wheels. Rear tires are 11R24.5, 16-ply HDL2 DL+, eight in total, also on Peterbilt 24.5x8.25 high-polish aluminum wheels. Both front and tandem drive wheels carry mirror-polish and Dura-Bright finishes on their outer surfaces.
