Overview
Overview
This 2026 Peterbilt 536 medium-duty conventional day cab is built as a 26' box truck for city delivery. It's a Class 6 chassis rated at 26,000 lbs GVWR, with a 26' Victory van body and a Dhollandia RMM-33 liftgate. The powertrain is set up for balanced performance in delivery service with frequent starts and stops. The truck is specified for 100% highway operation with a maximum grade of 6%.
Engine & Drivetrain
Power comes from a PACCAR PX-7 engine rated at 300 HP at 2,600 RPM, governed at 2,600 RPM, with 660 lb-ft of torque at 1,600 RPM. It is 2024-emissions compliant and EPA engine-idling compliant, and the engine is a 2025 model year. The engine works with a PACCAR TX-8 8AP660 8-speed automatic transmission with a TP650N torque converter and a column-mounted shifter on the right side. The transmission is PTO-equipped, with left-hand-mounted PTO provisions and a Chelsea 272U Series PTO specified for the TX-8. PTO controls include a single-acting electric-over-air control on the dash and a park brake interlock, and maximum PTO speed is programmed at 1,400 RPM. The truck has an SPL100 reverse slip driveline with two midship bearings and a 5.57 rear axle ratio, geared for a typical operating speed of 70 MPH. Maximum cruise speed is programmed at 75 MPH.
A VGT exhaust brake is standard. Engine equipment includes a high-efficiency cooling system, a Horton on/off fan clutch, one engine-mounted air cleaner and an 18.7 CFM air compressor. It also has a PACCAR fuel/water separator and engine protection shutdown. Electrical equipment includes a PACCAR 160-amp brushed alternator and a PACCAR 12V starter. There are three PACCAR Premium 12V dual-purpose batteries rated at 2,190 CCA. A 110–120V immersion block heater, a low-voltage disconnect system and a battery disconnect switch on the battery box are also fitted. The truck uses EMUX electronics architecture. Exhaust is a single right-hand horizontal system with a single-module DPF/SCR mounted under the frame on the right side.
Chassis & Axles
The frame uses 9-7/8" steel rails rated at 120,000 PSI, with a heavy-duty 5-piece back-of-cab crossmember and a 1-piece steel frame rail crossmember. Frame components are bolted rather than Huck-fastened. Wheelbase is 253", with a front axle to back-of-cab measurement of 67.5". Cab-to-axle is 185.5" and cab-to-end-of-frame is 309.5". The end of the frame is square, with no crossmember, so the body builder can install one. A moveable end-of-frame crossmember is provided for mounting taillights.
The front axle is a Dana Spicer E1002IL rated at 10,000 lbs with a 3.5" drop. It is a Dana Spicer wide-track axle with PHP10 iron Preset+ hubs and air disc brakes. The rear axle is a Dana Spicer S21-140 rated at 21,000 lbs, with PHP10 iron Preset+ hubs and Bendix air cam drum brakes sized 16.5 x 7. Braking also includes 4S4M anti-lock brakes, an SBM valve and a pneumatic park brake. All axles use synthetic lubricant. GAWR is 10,000 lbs front and 21,000 lbs rear, with a GCW of 26,000 lbs. Power steering is a Sheppard HD94 with a frame-mounted reservoir.
The air system has a Bendix AD-HF air dryer with a heater and coalescing filter, painted aluminum air tanks with pull cords on all tanks, and nylon chassis hoses. A body lighting junction box, without wiring, is located at the end of the frame. Fuel is carried in a 70-gallon D-shaped aluminum tank under the cab on the right side, with a non-slip step. All fuel and hydraulic tank straps are polished. The large DEF tank is listed at 15 gallons for medium-duty use. It is mounted back-of-cab on the left side, with a polished stainless steel cover and a DEF-to-fuel ratio of 2:1 or greater. The medium-duty battery box sits under the cab on the left side, with a non-slip step, a rubber battery pad and an aluminum cover. Up front is a tapered chrome steel bumper with two tow points.
Suspension
Front suspension uses 10,000 lb mono-leaf springs with shocks and 5 mm front spring spacer blocks. The rear rides on a lightweight Peterbilt Low Air Leaf suspension rated at 21,000 lbs. A dump switch on the dash, with an indicator light, controls the rear suspension.
Cab & Interior
The cab is aluminum, with a Peterbilt Aero 107" BBC SMC hood that has a molded charcoal crown with a bright finish. The interior is Probilt in Charcoal Gray with a curved roof, and it has a thermal insulation package and cab air suspension. The driver gets a Sears air-ride, high-back seat in black cloth with a right-side armrest. The passenger seat is a Sears non-suspension, high-back seat in black cloth with a toolbox underneath. The multi-function steering wheel has the Peterbilt logo and audio and cruise controls, and the steering column tilts and telescopes. The 7" infotainment display includes Apple CarPlay and plays through two cab speakers, and the radio mutes when the transmission is in reverse. Global telematics hardware is installed, along with a SmartLINQ RD 5-year subscription for PACCAR PX engines.
Instruments are in a 7" digital cluster that shows transmission oil temperature, brake air pressure, engine hours, turbo boost, engine percent torque and voltage. The speedometer is dual-scale (MPH over KPH). There is an air restriction indicator and room for up to four more electric switches, without wiring. Convenience features include Peterbilt keyless entry, power door locks and windows, a combination fresh-air heater and A/C, and a deep record/map pocket on the rear wall. The cab also has metal kick plates on the interior door panels, auto-reset circuit protection and electric wipers with an intermittent setting.
For visibility, the cab has a one-piece curved windshield, a fixed one-piece rear window and dark window tint. It also has a stainless steel outside sun visor and motorized, heated Peterbilt Aero mirrors with integrated convex lenses in a bright finish. A look-down mirror with a black housing sits over the passenger door. The textured exterior grab handle at the cab entry is NFPA compliant. Other equipment includes an air horn under the cab, a 107 dB backup alarm, a fire extinguisher mounted beside the driver's seat and a triangle reflector kit. Lighting includes composite fender-mounted headlights with built-in DRL, park, turn and side marker lamps, set to turn on when the wipers run. There are also five aero LED marker lights in chrome housings, self-canceling turn signals and LED stop/turn/tail/backup lights on brackets on both sides at the end of the frame. Paint is a two-stage Axalta finish in White on the cab, hood, hood top, roof and fenders, with a Black frame.
Body & Equipment
The Victory van body is 26' long, 102" wide and 103" high, with a rear door opening of 94" x 97.25". The walls are 6mm composite panels pre-painted white, made of painted galvanized steel over a polyethylene core and bonded at each shiplap seam with adhesive. Top and bottom rails are extruded aluminum. The subframe has 4" long rails and 3" crossmembers, plus four extra crossmembers at the rear on 6" centers. Wheel pans are added as the chassis requires, and the subframe is painted black. Mylar tape between the steel and aluminum helps prevent corrosion. The floor is 1-1/8" laminated hardwood, pre-undercoated, with a 26" black-painted steel tread plate threshold that sits flush at the rear and is routed into the floor. The front and side walls have 12.5"-high scuff liners of 14-gauge galvannealed steel. One row of E-series track runs along the side walls.
The rear door is a Transglobal composite Extreme Duty 1/4" roll-up door. It has dual-durometer joint and side seals, a top seal and an outside grab handle with a 24" pull strap. It also has an outside lock and keeper, 2" nylon rollers on galvanized track, a dual spring balancer, and aluminum and stainless rivets. Two 24" grab handles are mounted on the rear frame. The roof is a .062" translucent panel on crowned roof bows set on 24" centers, riveted around the edge and glued to the bows. Inside, two LED dome lights are centered on the roof bows and switched from the cab dash. Exterior lighting includes 3/4" round LED lights that meet FMVSS-108 standards, rear taillights recessed into the rear corner posts and a license plate light under the body. The body also comes with Victory Truck Body mudflaps and English-language safety decals.
