Overview
Overview: This is a new 2027 Peterbilt Model 589 Traditional day cab tractor, VIN 1XPED49XXVD836673. It is spec'd for hauling construction materials in construction dump service, on and off highway, pulling a semi end dump trailer. The chassis has a 221-inch wheelbase, 99.9-inch front axle to back of cab, 121.1-inch cab to axle, and 176.1-inch cab to end of frame. GVWR is 53,200 lbs and GCW is 110,000 lbs. The cab and hood are finished in Black Axalta two-stage metallic/pearl paint over a black frame.
Engine & Drivetrain: Power comes from a Cummins X15 Productivity Series engine (2024 emissions) rated at 565 hp @ 1,950 RPM, governed at 2,000 RPM, with 1,850 lb-ft of torque @ 1,000 RPM. It is EPA and CARB emissions and idling compliant, with a 45-minute idle shutdown timer and engine protection shutdown. Other engine equipment includes a Jacobs compression brake with controls on the right-hand column, the Predictive Cruise Control package, and a powertrain optimized for balance and frequent start/stop cycles. It also has a 12-pin remote PTO/throttle provision in the engine bay, a 1,400 RPM PTO maximum engine speed, and a dash-mounted electric-over-air PTO control. Supporting equipment includes a high-efficiency cooling system, a 2-speed fan clutch, an 18.7 CFM air compressor, and 15-inch premium stainless steel cowl-mounted air cleaners. Fuel system equipment includes a PACCAR extended-service fuel/water separator, a heated fuel filter and a 110–120V immersion block heater. The electrical system includes a PACCAR 160-amp alternator and four PACCAR premium 12V batteries (2,920 CCA), plus a cab power disconnect switch, low-voltage disconnect and battery jumper terminal. Exhaust is a dual SOC DPF/SCR single module under the right side of the cab. It feeds 36-inch chrome standpipes with 7-inch chrome-plated steel pipes and 45-degree curved tips. The transmission is an Eaton Endurant XD EXD-18F118D 18-speed automated transmission with an oil-to-water cooler. It has a right-hand column shifter, performance shift calibration and neutral coast mode. The Eaton approval notes that the Endurant XD is not approved for Class D (sand, mud or soft soil) operation. The driveline is Spicer RPL25 SD with one midship bearing and an RPL20 interaxle.
Chassis & Axles: The frame uses 10-3/4-inch steel rails with 3/8-inch rail thickness, zinc-coated anti-corrosion treatment and aluminum crossmembers. The end of frame is tapered with a crossmember and kingpin cutout. The front axle is a Dana Spicer E1322IL rated at 13,200 lbs with a 3.5-inch drop and wide track. It has Sheppard HD94 power steering with a frame-mounted reservoir. The rear is a Dana Spicer DSH40 40,000 lb tandem with a 3.70 ratio, a tandem differential lock with speed interlock, and a separate dash control. All axles run synthetic lubricant. Air disc brakes are fitted front and rear, with PHP10 aluminum Preset+ hubs and pad dust shields. Safety systems include Bendix ESP electronic stability with ATC, 6S6M ABS and tire pressure monitoring.
Suspension: The front suspension uses 13,200 lb taper leaf springs with Tenneco shocks, greasable spring pins and 40 mm spacer blocks. The rear is a Peterbilt Low Air Leaf rated at 40,000 lbs with 52-inch axle spacing. It uses a single leveling valve and a dash-mounted dump switch with indicator light. The cab rides on air suspension.
Cab & Interior: The aluminum cab sits behind a 131-inch BBC aluminum hood with a polished crown and spring tilt assist. It has the SmartSound insulation package and a Platinum Alpine Gray interior with a rubber floor. Both seats are black leather Peterbilt LX premium high-back air-ride seats; the driver seat is heated. The driver has left and right armrests and the passenger has a left armrest. The leather multifunction steering wheel has audio and cruise controls and sits on a tilt/telescope column. The 15-inch digital cluster displays hour meters, turbo boost, percent torque and transmission temperatures. Separate backlit gauges with bright bezels show both drive axle oil temperatures, engine oil temperature, fuel filter restriction, brake application and air suspension pressure. Audio and communications include a ConcertClass AM/FM/WB radio, satellite radio, Bluetooth phone and audio, a USB port and dual USB charging, and a 4-speaker package. There is also a Uniden PC78LTX CB with antenna mounts on both mirrors and global telematics hardware with a 5-year SmartLINQ remote diagnostics subscription. Other features include keyless entry, power locks and windows, a fresh-air heater/AC, dark tint, a fixed one-piece rear window and a curved one-piece windshield. The cab also has a stainless V-style sunvisor, heated and motorized stainless West Coast mirrors, 8-inch heated convex mirrors and a look-down mirror. Rounding it out are a pull-out work tray, a map pocket, three additional dash switches and a backup alarm.
Body & Equipment: The fifth wheel is a Holland FW35 no-tilt convertible with a heavy-duty 30-inch air slide, outboard mounting, an 8.6–9.25-inch height, and left-hand release and slide controls. Trailer connections include 15-foot 3-in-1 air/electric lines with dual 7-way plugs, a 15-foot ISO cable, an ISO 3731 trailer ABS power connector and a chromed hose tenna. Two bottom-dump trailer switches are wired to a Berg 4-way socket, and a dash switch sends battery power to the J560. The air system has a Bendix AD-HF EP heated air dryer, polished aluminum air tanks with pull cords and a dash-mounted self-returning hand valve. The 26-inch polished aluminum fuel tanks are a 110-gallon right-hand split tank (65 gallons of fuel) and a 60-gallon left-hand tank, with a secondary sending unit and polished straps. The 14-gallon DEF tank has a polished stainless cover. Exterior equipment includes a chromed steel Texas bumper with two tow points and stainless braceless quarter fenders. It also has premium stainless mudflap hangers, a polished aluminum battery box step and an LH deck plate. Lighting includes projector headlights, LED marker, tail, mirror turn and load lights, and prewiring for fog and beacon lights.
Tires & Wheels: The front tires are Bridgestone R283S Ecopia 11R22.5 16-ply, and the eight rear tires are Bridgestone M760 Ecopia 11R22.5 14-ply. They are mounted on Accuride 22.5x8.25 aluminum wheels, extra-polished with Accu-Shield finish on both sides, with wheel guards front and rear.
